Mauritius Curepipe
Curepipe is situated in the province of Plaines Wilhelm’s in the island of Mauritius. As the city of Curepipe is located on the central plateau of the island it receives heavy rainfall, however the climate is generally temperate. Curepipe also has a wiped out Trou aux Cerfs volcano that lies in the center of the city. The Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation and even the New George V Stadium are located in the forest side province of Curepipe. Curepipe also has hosted the sixth Games of the Indian Ocean Islands recently. St Josephs College and the Royal College Curepipe are the two famous and even the oldest schools in the city of Curepipe.
There is also a Carnegie library which was set up in the year1917 by the Carnegie Foundation. This library is well known due to its wide variety of collection which comprise of manuscripts and books on Indian Ocean Islands. It also hosts the famous Curepipe Botanical Gardens which has few of the rarest palm trees in the world. The New George V Stadium lies near the main highway which leads the city of Curepipe from the main motor highway towards major bus terminals in the south and even the famous city of Port Louis. This city of Curepipe has temperate climate with humid summers, cool winters and heavy rains. Its soil is rich and lush as bears witness by the lovely conifer forest that surrounds the entire city.
The French sailors established the agreement at the foundation of the French immigration of the island, along with the cooler climate which likely reminds them of their French natives. The neighboring town of Nouvelle France which is now translated to New France was also under the French sailors. For most of the period the city of Curepipe was the main resident place for most of the French descendants. Its existing posh villas and shopping malls illustrate the French existence. The rising urban slump and better communication and road, persuaded the French to shift its base to south western coast of the city.
The city of Curepipe is also a shopping paradise as several tourists find several Indian wear clothing’s, boutiques and duty free shops. Few of the most famous shopping malls in the city are the Salaffa Arcade and the Manhattan complex. Even its market place is the best place for shopping as one can find all varieties of clothing stuff and other items. The Salaffa Arcade is situated in the heart of the city and is one of the topmost shopping malls in the city of Curepipe. This arcade is also known as the Salaffa & Currimjee Arcade. At the arcade one can find shops selling clothes, electronic goods, toys, wedding dress, books, saris and souvenirs. The market place of Curepipe usually gets over crowded on Saturdays and Wednesdays as these two days are the main days for shopping in the city. Jan Palach Gallery and the LeManhattan complex are also very famous in the city.
