Culture of Mauritius
Due to several origins of people, Mauritius has been a country with multinational culture. British who invaded this island brought several Indian laborers to work in the sugarcane fields. Even Chinese or the Sino-Mauritians were brought to this island for the same purpose and few others came as entrepreneurs. The Creoles were the outcome of inter marriage between the French and Africans were the initial settlers of this island and of course the children’s of African slaves along with the Chinese and Indian laborers make up the diverse culture of this island.
The most crucial part of this interesting combination of cultures is the dance of Sega which is the most stimulating presentation of African roots.
