The Republic of Mauritius is a small tropical island situated in the Indian Ocean as is very famous for its white sandy beaches and its calm lagoons. However, tourists visiting Mauritius have a list of tourist destinations which are worth visiting such as Nature Parks and Museums. One of the best places to visit in Mauritius is Port Louis which is the capital city of Mauritius. Port Louis has several historical buildings and even quite a few museums which reflect the lifestyle and traditions of the locals during the British and French occupation. Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, Casela Bird & Nature Park, La Vanille Crocodile Park, La Vallee des Couleurs Nature Park, Domaine Les Pailles, Natural History Museum and Blue Penny Museum are few of the main places of interest in the city of Port Louis.

The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is situated about 10 kms north of Port Louis. This garden was initially built by Pierre Poivre and it covers around 60 acres of land. This garden was being laid out as a mansion house which was called as the Mon Plaisir and was used as a vegetable garden. This garden stores in water-lilies from the Amazon, stags from Indonesia, tortoise for other islands and several other trees and plants. The La Vanille Crocodile Park situated at the Riviere des Anguilles consists of Nile crocodiles, monkeys, lizards, tortoise strolling freely, bats and wild boars. Another park which is the La Vallee des Couleurs Nature Park is enchanted by its fantastic waterfalls. This waterfall offers a picturesque view of its scenery.

The Natural History Museum is one of the popular tourist destinations as it is visited for solitary key exhibit which is the replica of the flightless bird the legendary Dodo. After several investigations it was been found that Dodo was the member of the pigeon family and it is only found in Mauritius. In the year 1505, Dido was explored by the Portuguese explorers and it weighs about 23 kg. At present, Dido has become wiped out due to the predators like rats, monkeys, pigs and dogs which were introduced to the island of Mauritius by European immigration. The Blue Penny Museum is situated in the city of Port Louis and is primarily devoted to the art and history of Mauritius. This museum is run by the officials of the Mauritius Commercial bank. In 1993, this bank formed an association of local companies in order to buy stamps at an auction in Switzerland and bring them to Mauritius for posterity.
